4 Mile Hike At Yosemite

This has got to be one of my favorite hikes of all time! It was so unbelievably beautiful. It was actually 4.6mi each way and windy switchbacks the entire time, but it was well worth it. at every turn the whole valley opens up to breathtaking vistas and sheer cliffs. It ends with seeing the Jewel of the valley, Half Dome. If you ever have a chance to do this take it!

Dory came to visit us. It was the best time. she came Dec. 16th-22nd. I didn't have a camera, and my phone camera was even acting up so I wont be able to post those until she gives me her pics. It was great though seeing so many different places and going on so many different adventures. I miss ya already!

I hope that you enjoy these pictures. I took them at my highest weight then after losing 30 lbs and now after losing 60 lbs. It has been a lot of work, but it has also been exciting and fun being able to see the results. Mostly it has been nice having energy and being in less pain.

Our good friend Laura Nollette took Mike and I on a great adventure. We first took a fairy over to Whidbey Island. On the island we visited Fort Casey and several other parks. We also stopped in Couperville and did a little window shopping.One of the coolest things to see though, is Deception pass. It's a huge bridge that links the Island back to the mainland. It was so incredibly beautiful. If you are ever in the area it is a must see!. Thanks again Laura for a great adventure. Next destination can be us in San Francisco!

Mike and I decided to take one last trip to Mt. Rainier. I love it there. It is so beautiful. One thing to note, we broke our camera when we were in UT so all of these were taken without being able to see what we were taking. I think that we still did pretty well.

On June 24th Mike and I went to Kennewick WA to see one of our favorite bands. the venue was so small and intimate it was awesome I stood by the stage all night and heard some of the greatest songs ever! The band that opened for them was great their name is the Mumlers.

Mike and I had the chance to hike on the desert a lot while down in Utah. We went with both my dad and with Mike's parents. Here are some pictures from the Wedge. Dory and I climbed down to the "Bee Hive", which by the way used to seem bigger, yet easier to climb. go figure. We also hiked to a cool place nick named the secret garden where these rare ferns grow in the middle of the dessert. We had a great time!

Last week Mike and I found this great old trunk at an antique store. We bought it and have spent the whole week fixing it up. Here are the pictures of the old girls transformation.

A week ago my sister Cammie told me I may or may not get a mysterious package in the mail. So after a week of waiting, it came yesterday. I was so excited. When I opened it up I found 5 new shirts, several camisoles, and 2 new skirts!!! apparently when Cammie saw that this great little store was going out of business, she recruited my mom in going in on this very generous gift for me. I am so thankful for my family and a caring Sister with great style! THANK YOU GUYS!

Today was a lot of fun. Mike and I picked up our friend Bettie and her friend Karen at the air port and took them out for a day on the town. we went to Ivars and fed the seagulls french fries.

We went to the Ye Olde Curiosity Shop to see Sylvester the Mummy and some shrunken heads.

Then we went to Pikes Market

Behind Pikes in an ally is the Wall of Gum. It was awesomely gross. A must see for anyone who has ever stuck gum under a desk, or anyone who has ever had the disgusting surprise of touching it there.

Last but not least we say the Space Needle and the EMP building.
Over all a great day!!

I don't have many pictures, but for Labor day we went down to Portland to spend a little time with Mike's family. We played games, talked, went mini golfing, and played dress up. Kara wanted to make me into a puppet. So after a little make up and a hair due. This is how it turned out. A little scary I know. Our Latest Adventure, Mt. Rainier

So we picked a clear day and headed up to beautiful Mt. Rainier! It was gorgeous! there were waterfalls everywhere because of all the run off and the mountain was astounding. I could live there. Some day I would love to go on the wonderland trail, which is 93 mi long and circles all the way around Mt. Rainier. it also has a cumulative 22,000 feet (6,700 m) of elevation gain. I may have to get in shape first.

We took Layne and Debbie to a Mariners game we actually watched as the Twins beat them but it was fun none the less. Later that week we took them to Ohme Gardens and to Leavenworth. It was great seeing them.

We have had a lot of fun this year and yet haven't posted. Hear are just a few things that have happened: In April My mom and dad came up and we went to Dry Falls, Leavenworth and the Grand Cooley Dam. It was awesome. It was so fun having them come up!! A short time later Richard and Cindy and their whole family came up to visit. It was fun. We spent a day in Seattle, the kids loved the aquarium and the Space Needle. We then took them to the ocean where we camped. We also drove to the tallest light house in Washington. It was so fun having to many visitors!

VD at the Coast

This year for VD, Jayna and I both had a 3 day weekend, so we decided to take an adventure to the great Northwestern Coastline of Washington.

The first day and night was full of wet rainy fun (the puddles in our tent can attest to this fact). The next day gave away to a break in the clouds, and a beautiful view of the ocean.

We spent the first half of the first day at Roosevelt Beach, 15 minutes north of Ocean Shores. We both sat, Jayna attenuating to her paints and I to my Dilbert comic book, enjoying our first glimpse of the sun during our trip. Around noon, we decided to move along to another beach. Jayna proceeded to the water to clean out her paint supplies while I packed the car. Suddenly, I heard Jayna screaming. I hastily looked towards the noise to find Jayna running at great speed away from a trailing ocean swell.. I laughed a little and continued to pack the car. I then heard Jayna scream again and to great alarm I witnessed a rogue wave bearing my direction. Not having the time to move the car, I slipped inside the vehicle just as the water swelled around the car, which slightly moving it. (Mind you now, we parked the car next to the cliffs many, many yards away from the rising tides. In addition, their had been no evidence during our stay at the beach of water ever coming close enough to surround the car). Then, again to my surprise, another wave hit the car, also slightly rocking the vehicle. The water only reached 4-6 inches, but that meant 4-6 inches deeper into the sand our tires were. After the water receded, I quickly finished loading the car, and relocated the car to a more suitable location with little effort. To say the least, our hearts were pumping. It was a great day!

Here is our humble campsite.

The trees which surrounded our campsite were all covered in lime green moss. Truly a remarkable site.

At sunset, we decided to sit on the beach, but a gentle elderly couple beat us to it. Such kindred old souls.

Our campsite was located only a short 2 minute walk from the beach. Here is the trail that lead to the beach from our campsite; little wooden fence and all.

During our excursions on the shoreline, Jayna and I referred to each other as early twentieth century explorers. Our names were Dr. Michael H. Whilhem (Mike) and Commander Cillcrist M. Shackelford (Jayna), with Cillcrist heading the expedition and I as her first mate. We were in search of excellent beach specimens to gather and place on display in our museum back home in Great Britain. As you can see, it was a triumphant voyage.

Upon the last day, we perched ourselves atop the remnants of a mighty tree. At its uppermost point, the tree measured 12-15 feet tall. We spend a enjoyable 2 hours here witnessing nature's beauty and wonder in forms of bird flight, waves, ocean swells, and so on. While atop this massive truck, the water would swell around us. If one peered just right, if felt as if the mighty truck carried us out to see as the water swelled around us; however, as the water receded back, so did we. It was rather remarkable. We finally retired to our mode of transportation to end our excursion to the Great Northwest Coastline and proceeded back to our home. This was a truly remarkable expedition by your great explorers: Dr. Whilhelm and Commander Shackleford.

Halloween Fun!!!

Jayna and I actually had Halloween off together, woohoo!!! And in celebration of this Pagan holiday, here is the proof of our Pagan fun.

Mike really is an evil cartoon that is trying to kill Roger Rabbit.

Our pumpkins were carved to appease the pagan gods. I carved the weird candy guy, and Jayna carved Sweeney Todd.

And we ended our pagan night with Virgin Mint Mojitos, the drink that makes us feel fancy.

Sometimes people find an image of the Virgin Mary in potatoes, others find depictions of Jesus in plaster walls; however, Jayna and I have found the most inspiring of them all: a curly fry that looks like the symbol for the Oracle from the movie The Neverending Story. The only comment Jayna and I would like to make on the matter is: "Say my name, Sebastian. Say it!!!"

PLEASE NOTE: The curly fry in question was not tampered with in any shape, way, or form. This picture represents how the curly fry was found in it's natural state.

We went to Temple!!!

Last Tuesday, Jayna and I went to Temple (I like to say "Temple" instead "the Temple", it 's much cooler) in Seattle for the first time, and it was amazing; it's such a magical place. Afterward, we decided to make a day of being in Seattle, and went to the beach at the Golden Garden Park which has its own harbor.

The Puget Sound was so spectacular with clear skies, hazy mountains in the distance, and deep blue water.

We walked barefoot through the sand, looked for seashells, and just sat back and relaxed. Near the end of our day at the beach, the waves started crashing on to shore pretty heavy, so, of course, we had to place ourselves in their path, resulting in wet, sandy pantaloons.

So with our damp knickers on, we started on our way, got lost in Seattle, found our way back on to the highway before dark, and while on the floating bridge, had a clear view of Mount Rainier.

It was a great day.

Our First Washington Expedition

Jayna and I took our first expedition in the great northwest territory for which we pioneered. The area we decided to first visit is the Roslyn area, an area 30 minutes northwest of Ellensburg. The town of Roslyn (founded in 1886 as a coal mining town) is where the TV Series Northern Exposure was filmed. As the pictures show, many of the original buildings from the old mining town still exist and are in current today.

About fifteen minutes past Roslyn is Cle Elum Lake. Because the lake is in the middle of a drought season, we were able to take pictures of and sit on a beach covered with old tree stumps that are normally under 20 to 30 feet of water. Also, we were lucky enough to arrive at the lake an hour before sunset so we took a picture of this lake's beautiful sunset.

After much hard work and dedication, Jayna has earned her Personal Progress Award. I'm so proud of her. She was able to receive her medallion in front of her Young Women and the rest of our old ward on her very last Sunday in Logan before the temple dedication.

Jayna is not only an inspiration to me, but to the Young Women with whom she has served the last 3 1/2 years.

Here is the beautiful packing job my brother did. FYI: we were able to fit 90% of our belongings into a 6x6x10 moving truck. To put this into perspective, Uhaul stated that this size of truck is perfect for studio/1 bedroom apartments--our apartment was a 2 bedroom. All those years of Tetris finally paid off.
Plus, a HUGE THANK YOU goes out to Neal and Gwen, whom without their help, moving and unpacking would have been near impossible.
So thank you Richard, Neal, and Gwen, wherever you are!!

So I used to have a lot of frogs and I had tons of equipment for them. Well I haven't had them for a while but I have been looking for something to do with their tanks. Then It hit me! an herb garden. I cleaned them all out and then Mike and I went and got some soil and some seeds. and hopefully in a month we will have some fresh herbs. The little bumps in the soil are a few little sprouts already starting!

My mom is an amazing woman. She is a hard worker and is always on the go. When I was a youngster We found out my Mom has M.S. Because of the money donated to better research my mom has been able to take a medication that reduces the symptoms of this disease, and has enabled her to have a better quality of life. The work shouldn't end here. There is so much about M.S. we don't know and a cure we have yet to find. Please help us in our cause. We on team tootsie are trying to raise as much money as we can and participate in a walk in April. Any amount helps a couple of dollars can really go a long way in finding a cure. Ottalyne Dinkelman 1931 ~ 2009 EAST CARBON - Ottalyne Marsden Hansen Dinkelman, age 77, passed away Jan. 19, 2009 at East Carbon. Born Feb. 4, 1931 in Murray, Utah, to Otto James Hansen and Hazel Harker Marsden. Married Willem Adriaan Dinkelman, May 4, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Survived by five children, 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grand-children; sister, Gladys Graham, brothers, LaVoy and Janice Hansen, VerNon Hansen and LaMonte and Leslie Hansen, brother-in-law, John Dinkelman. Preceded in death by husband, parents, and daughter-in-law. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 24, 10 a.m. in the East Carbon LDS Chapel. Family will be at Fausett Mortuary in Price Friday, Jan 23, 6-8 p.m., and prior to the services at the church Saturday 8:30-9:30 a.m. Burial at Larkin Sunset Lawn and Gardens in Sandy, services in the care of Fausett Mortuary.

This is sad, but true. If anyone is forced to go to Hell-mart...I mean...Wal-mart, you should let us know if this is still accurate. However, this is a bit customer oriented. Here are a few things that need to be added about workers, which are but not limited to: apparel workers wiping their noses or picking a "snuggy" and then touching the clothes; workers who have no clue where anything is; workers wearing heavy metal band, wrestling, or ICP t-shirts while on shift; and workers that don't speak a word of English. Neal gets called to the steak presidency. (This didn't happen to his relief)
Bethany Graduates and gets a great job. (More like her dream job)
Christian Gets promoted. (This also happened just a little far away)
Brandt Gets engaged. (We got this one right on a technicality)

Mike, Cindy, and myself stayed up way to late one night and started talking about all the scenes that you could do with ginger bread. We got a kick out of the Idea to do Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper and decided to give it a try. We have worked on it since last Thursday. but it is a master piece. I think old Leonardo would be proud. Tell us what you think!

Richard and Cindy got us tickets to the Christmas devotional. Mikes parents were also able to come up to meet us. Afterward we walked around Temple Square where I ran into my good bud Luke and his family. It was a great night to get the old Christmas spirit started! I was able to see my niece Kara a week ago and she told me a great story. Here's what she said.

"Jayna guess what? the other day I got to pick out a sticker and guess which one I picked? I picked Fiona because she looks just like you. And I miss you. "

Idea that my niece thinks I resemble an oger. But the thoughts couldn't stay down and I got curious. I went on the internet to see if I could find any pictures of my mystery twin and guess what? She was right! These are some pictures I found that prove her point.

I'm sure this has been seen on my sisters blogs but I wanted to mention that while my wonderful Mikey was risking his life at a gun show, I was able to go down to Emery County and see my dads play. It Was Man of La Mancha. This is one of my favorite plays and I was so excited to see it. This is the set. When it comes to sets my dad is a genius! I am also very proud of my mom who played some very hard music for this production.
The other think I got to do while I was down was meet my little brother frankey the goat. He is so cute, and was so much fun to play with.

The Tale of the Crossroads of the West 2008 Gunshow.

Recently I was invited to attend a gun show by my brother-in-law Jared, and it was fun to hang out with him and talk guns, movies, politics, and whatever else. However, I must admit I did fear for my life at the event. Let me paint this picture for you.

The first evidence that a gun show was taking place was the massive gathering of deisel fed monsters (American made, of course) that littered the parking lot. From these monsters exited camo-covered, boot cladding, gun yielding individuals (with just a sprinkle of mullet) geared up for a gun-powdered extravaganza. Upon surviving the "truck corral", we entered the facility when suddenly a cold sensation shivered up my spine. There hanging in all it's glory, gently swayed a banner displayed by the NRA. Though the banner was simple in nature--white background and bold black lettering--the words penetrated my soul with a pure sense of terror. With every word I read, the Fight-Or-Flight response in which we all posses began to take hold. Upon this right-wing "Title of Liberty" proclaimed a plea, a plea to unite as free men in support of the never-ending Gun Possessing War now centered against the man for which I proudly supported in this great nation's elections: Barack Obama. There I stood, surrounded by thousands of gun-toting individuals all up-in-arms over the defeat of their beloved McCain less than a month previous, about to enter one of the biggest gatherings and collections of weapons/ammo (at wholesale price, mind you) this state has witnessed this year, and all I had to protect myself was an iPod, cellphone, and my wits. Needless to say, I...was...screwed. Cautiously, I leaned over to my companion and whispered these words of desperation: "Do you think I should keep quiet the fact I voted for Obama?" With a twinkle in his eye, Jared chuckled and agreed that my concern and plan for survival was just.

Anyway, it was fun to look at all the weaponry, from the top-of-the-line to the bottom-of-the-barrel (no pun intended). Personally, I found the vintage arms to be the best of the whole selection. In fact, they had an original "Tommy Gun" from the early twentieth century, complete with a drum magazine and violin case. The highlight, however, was the booth selling vintage LP's, and I was able to score an excellent condition of The Rolling Stones' Aftermath for only $2. So with LP in hand, I walked out of the building alive to tell the tale of the Crossroads of the West 2008 Gunshow.

Smashing Pumpkins

In dedication to one of our favorite bands, we decided to go smash our pumpkins. We went out our window on to our 3 story fire escape and chucked them as hard as we could. Mikes was pretty hollow and made a huge pop. Mine was pretty damn ripe and splattered everywhere. Thank you Carbon/Emery County for teaching us how to have cheap fun.

Yes, we are crazy cat people! Meet Scraps and Rents (Renton) . We got Rents 2 1/2 years ago, and named him after a character from Trainspotting. We have had scraps for 1 1/2 years. We named him Scraps because when we adopted him from 4paws rescue and brought him home, he would try to eat everything like bread and gummy worms. Rents taught him well and soon started eating and grooming right. They sure do love each other.

Today was the Uinta Academy Halloween Carnival. I found this mask at Hastings. I thought is was pretty cool but I wasn't sure if it would do the trick. I decided to test it out by walking around the store in it. It was a success I truly freaked out a few people and made some small children cry. After that I knew I had to have it. I found some old coaching pants of my dads, (yes they are the same ones that me and Dory both climbed in to for a photo shoot) which I stuffed with pillows. and an old man sweater that I kept from my old man phase. I put on some diabetic orthopedic shoes that I bought some years ago and grabbed a cane. I got to the comunity center a little early and I knew I had the right costume when our receptionist tried to kick me out. After I told her it was me, we decided to pull a prank. I went to the janitors closet and got a broom and started sweeping. I looked so much like a janitor that it took the girls a few minutes to realize who I was. It was a good time. I was even able to breakout some of the dance moves I've been perfecting.

So after many years of living as a recluse and dodging any form of technology available, I broke down 2 yrs ago and got a cell phone. Today is another marked day on my families calendar because I am starting a blog... Mike thinks its spurred on by peer pressure but I would prefer to believe that it is more like my coming out party to a world of technological advances.
